A Fresh Start for Tarrant County

Nathan represents a new generation of leadership for Tarrant County. His combination of military discipline, educational achievement, government experience, and community involvement positions him to bring fresh ideas and proven leadership to the District Clerk’s office.

As Nathan has shared with supporters, his decision to run came after extensive conversations with family and trusted advisors who understand the importance of this race. He recognizes that Tarrant County is a crucial battleground, and he’s committed to working hard not just for his own campaign, but for the entire Democratic ticket to bring accountability and modernization to county government.

Nathan believes it will take dedicated public servants working together to address the challenges facing Tarrant County after years of outdated systems and lack of accountability. His military training taught him that success requires teamwork, attention to detail, and putting service above personal ambition.

From his service in Afghanistan to his work securing classified facilities at Fort Hood, Nathan has consistently demonstrated his ability to handle responsibility, manage complex operations, and serve with integrity. He brings this same commitment to excellence and service to his campaign for District Clerk.


Military Service and Leadership

Nathan Smith brings proven leadership, dedication to public service, and a commitment to accountability to the race for Tarrant County District Clerk. As an Army Captain and Bronze Star Medal recipient, Nathan understands the importance of precision, integrity, and service that Tarrant County residents deserve from their elected officials.

Nathan proudly comes from three generations of military service and served as an Army officer from 2010 to 2017, achieving the rank of Captain. During his distinguished military career, he completed a combat deployment to Kunar Province, Afghanistan, and an operational deployment to Kuwait in the war against ISIS. For his exceptional service, Nathan was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

In his final military assignment, Nathan was responsible for security oversight of all Top Secret Information Facilities (SCIFs) at Fort Hood. This critical role required him to analyze and apply complex Department of Defense and Director of National Intelligence regulations with precision and attention to detail. Throughout his Army career, Nathan managed teams and organizations of up to 85 people, developing the leadership and management skills essential for overseeing county operations.

Nathan’s military experience directly translates to the District Clerk’s office. His expertise in analyzing detailed regulations, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and managing large teams provides the foundation necessary to efficiently run the District Clerk’s operations and serve Tarrant County residents effectively.


Education and professional experience

Nathan earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego and holds a Master of Professional Studies from Penn State University. His educational background, combined with his practical experience, has prepared him to tackle the complex administrative and legal responsibilities of the District Clerk’s office.

Following his military service, Nathan gained valuable experience working in Tarrant County government, giving him firsthand knowledge of county operations and the challenges facing local government today.


Community Leadership

Nathan’s commitment to public service extends beyond his military career. He has served as Communications Chair of the Tarrant County Democratic Party and as a precinct chair, demonstrating his dedication to civic engagement and democratic participation at the grassroots level..



Vision for the District Clerk’s Office

Nathan is running for District Clerk to bring a more customer-oriented approach to the office. He believes that defense attorneys and individuals navigating the Tarrant County criminal justice system should be able to obtain the documents they need more easily and without unnecessary or excessive fees.

As District Clerk, Nathan will focus on modernizing outdated systems and improving efficiency. His military background in managing complex operations and analyzing detailed regulations makes him uniquely qualified to streamline office procedures while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.

Nathan is a devoted husband and father who understands the challenges facing working families in Tarrant County. His commitment to public service stems from his desire to build a better community for his family and all county residents.
